Why
Natural Stone ? |
|
The look and feel of natural stone makes it one of
the most beautiful building materials known to man. It is also one of
the oldest, coming from the same liquid and gas minerals that formed
the earth itself. Rock beds that took millions of years to form are
now used as quarries all over the world. The age and position of these
quarries will determine what type of stone is mined. The three main
types of stone are: sedimentary (sandstone, limestone), metamorphic
(marble, slate) and igneous (granite).
The paving sold by St. Albans Stone is categorised as quartzitic sandstone. It is formed of quartz grains (sand) and is extremely hard wearing. The grains are bonded together with various minerals such as silica, calcium, clay and iron oxide. The colour will vary from light brown to reddish depending upon which bonding agents are present. The slabs are hand split to give a beautifully textured surface. The edges are also hand dressed to give an attractive, natural looking finish. These
different colours and hand finishing give each slab a unique appearance
and, along with 6 different sizes to choose from, your floor, path or
patio will be as individual as you are. |
